TurboTorch TBT0386-0154 Replacement Tip T-6 1 Inch Propane

The TurboTorch TBT0386-0154 is a replacement tip, T-6, 1 inch, propane.

Propane is the specification here and it is the one that must not be got wrong.

Torch tips are gas-specific and the reason is flame speed. Acetylene burns dramatically faster than propane, and a tip's orifice and swirl chamber are dimensioned around the speed of the gas it is designed for — the mixture has to leave the tip faster than the flame can travel back down it. Put the wrong gas through the wrong tip and one of two things happens: the flame lifts off and will not stay lit, or it burns back inside the tip.

Burning back is the serious one. A flashback travelling into the torch and back toward the cylinder is exactly the event that flashback arrestors exist to stop, and it is not something to find out about experimentally.

So a propane tip is for propane. It is not an acetylene tip that happens to be in the drawer.

The T-series is TurboTorch's propane and MAPP-style range. The 1 inch figure is the tip size, which is a heat delivery rating — matched to the mass of the joint, because a large fitting conducts heat away faster than a small flame can supply it.

Verify the gas against the cylinder before every job.
