Quick connects on a torch outfit solve a specific irritation and they carry a specific responsibility.

The irritation: changing between a cutting torch, a welding tip, and a heating rosebud means unscrewing two hoses and screwing on two more, with a wrench, every time. On a job where the tools change constantly that is dead time and it is wear on the fittings.

The responsibility is what makes oxy-fuel fittings different from air fittings, and it is worth being explicit. Oxygen and fuel gas connections are threaded in opposite directions — oxygen right-hand, fuel gas left-hand, with the fuel nut notched around its circumference so it can be identified by touch. That is not tradition. It is a designed interlock that makes it physically impossible to connect fuel gas to an oxygen line, and the consequences of doing so are catastrophic.

Any quick connect set has to preserve that. Verify that the couplers are gas-specific and non-interchangeable, and that they are rated for oxygen service — oil and grease in an oxygen fitting is a fire.
