The Gentec GTCQC-HTPRSP is a quick connector with check valve, for the hose to torch connection.

Quick connectors solve a real time problem in a shop that changes torches. Threading and unthreading fittings every time a welder swaps from a cutting attachment to a heating tip is slow, and — more importantly — every cycle wears the threads and the seat. Worn seats leak, and leaks in oxy-fuel service are not a minor maintenance item.

The check valve is the specification that matters most, and it addresses a genuine hazard. Reverse flow occurs when gas from one line backs up into the other — for instance if a torch tip becomes blocked, or if the two supply pressures are unbalanced. Fuel gas backing into an oxygen hose, or oxygen into a fuel hose, creates an explosive mixture inside the hose itself, on the wrong side of the torch. A check valve permits flow in one direction only and stops it.

It is worth being precise: a check valve is not a flashback arrestor. Check valves stop reverse gas flow; flashback arrestors stop a flame front travelling back up the hose. They address different failures, and many operations specify both.

This connector is the hose-to-torch position. The regulator-to-hose position uses a different connector.

Leak test after every connection. Never use oil on oxygen equipment.

Applications include welding and cutting operations, fabrication, and field welding.
