The Gentec GTCQC-RHPR-A is a quick connector with check valve for the regulator to hose connection, with an "A" fitting at 3/8"-24, for fuel and oxygen gas service, with 3/8"-24LH and 3/8"-24RH connections.

The LH and RH designations in the specification are worth explaining, because they are a safety system rather than an arbitrary difference. In oxy-fuel equipment, fuel gas connections use left-hand threads and oxygen connections use right-hand threads. Fuel gas nuts also carry a notch cut around them. The purpose is absolute: it makes it physically impossible to connect a fuel line to an oxygen fitting or the reverse. A cross-connected oxy-fuel set is an explosion, and the thread convention is what prevents it.

The consequence for anyone working on this equipment is that a fitting that will not thread on is telling you something. Never force it.

The check valve permits flow in one direction only. Its job is preventing reverse flow — gas from one line backing into the other, which can happen with a blocked tip or unbalanced pressures, and which creates an explosive mixture inside the hose. Note that a check valve is not a flashback arrestor; those stop a flame front rather than gas flow, and many operations fit both.

This is the regulator-to-hose position; the hose-to-torch position takes a different connector.

Leak test after connection, and never use oil on oxygen equipment.
