The FyterTech NPSO1PH100 is an NPS Essentials 15 x 18 inch oil only single-ply sorbent pad, heavy weight, white, single-ply meltblown polypropylene, 18 gallon absorbency, 100 pads.

Meltblown polypropylene is the material and it explains everything about how these work.

Meltblowing produces extremely fine fibres in a random tangle, which creates two useful things at once: an enormous internal surface area, and a network of capillary spaces between fibres. Liquid is drawn into that network and held there. The pad is not a sponge — nothing is squeezing anything — it is capillary action doing the work.

Polypropylene itself is naturally hydrophobic, which is what makes oil only sorbents possible. Left untreated, it repels water and takes up hydrocarbons. Universal sorbents are the same material treated to accept water as well.

That is why colour matters here: white is oil only, grey is universal, across this whole range. On water, an oil only pad floats and takes the oil; a universal pad drinks water until it sinks.

Heavy weight is the grade and it means more material per pad — 18 gallon absorbency against 15 for the medium. It also means a tougher pad that survives being dragged.

At 100 pads this is facility packaging.

Saturated sorbents are hazardous waste and are disposed of accordingly.
