Tweco TWE1220-1205 Nozzle VelocityTM 3/4 Inch

The Tweco TWE1220-1205 is a Velocity nozzle, 3/4 inch tip bore.

The 3/4 inch bore is the specification and nozzle bore is one of the most consequential and least considered choices in MIG welding.

The bore is the opening the shielding gas comes out of, and it has to cover the weld puddle. A bore that is too small does not shield the full puddle — the edges pick up atmosphere, and the result is porosity, which shows up as a weld that fails inspection for reasons nobody can see while welding.

So bore follows amperage and wire size, because both drive puddle size. High amperage, big wire, big puddle, big bore. Reading this against the 3/8 inch Velocity nozzle in the same range: those are opposite ends of the same decision.

The trade running the other way is access and gas consumption. A large nozzle will not fit into a tight fillet or a narrow groove, and it uses more gas for the same weld.

Which is why a shop carries a range rather than one.

The Velocity series is Tweco's consumable platform, and platform compatibility matters: nozzles, diffusers, and tips are a matched system. Mixing series produces gas leaks and poor electrical contact.
