The ARCAIR AIR2204-3003 supplies 1/4" x 12" pointed copperclad DC gouging electrodes, packaged 50 per pack, for air carbon-arc gouging.
Air carbon-arc gouging works on a principle distinct from cutting: the arc between the carbon electrode and the workpiece melts the metal, and a jet of compressed air blown along the electrode blows the molten metal clear before it can resolidify. The result is a clean groove rather than a severed edge, which is why gouging is the process used for back-gouging weld joints, removing defective welds, and preparing bevels.
These electrodes are copperclad. The copper coating is functional: it carries current along the electrode's length, allowing higher amperage without the carbon overheating, and it reduces the rate at which the electrode erodes back — meaning more gouging per rod and a more consistent groove profile as the operator works.
The pointed configuration comes tapered at the working end, which lets the operator strike and establish the arc without dressing the electrode first.
These are DC electrodes. Matching electrode type to power source polarity matters — a DC electrode run on the wrong output will not deliver a stable arc or a clean groove.
At 1/4" diameter this is a general-purpose size for moderate metal removal: weld repair, back-gouging, casting cleanup, and general fabrication rework.
Used across structural steel fabrication, shipyards, foundries, heavy equipment repair, and maintenance welding. Supplied 50 per pack.
