Description
The S-Line SLI557-WHK is a 557WHK ratchet strap tie down with a long wide handle and J-hooks, yellow webbing, 2 inch by 27 ft, 3,333 lb working load limit, priced and sold per each.
The J-hook is the specification distinguishing this from the flat-hook version alongside it, and hook selection is not interchangeable.
A flat hook is a wide flat plate that seats against a rub rail or a flat edge and spreads the load across it. A J-hook is a narrow curved hook that goes through an anchor point, a stake pocket, a D-ring, or a rope rail. They attach to different things, and a hook that does not seat properly is a hook that comes off — which is a strap doing nothing while looking like it is doing something.
So the hook follows the trailer, not the preference.
Yellow webbing is worth a note. Web colour in tie-downs is frequently a manufacturer's capacity convention, and it also means a strap on a road is visible. A strap that has come loose and is trailing is a hazard to everyone behind, and yellow gets noticed.
The 3,333 lb figure is a working load limit — exactly one third of a 10,000 lb breaking strength. That factor of three absorbs the dynamic loading a truck generates.
