Note a data error: this row states 12,800 lbs webbing where every other sling in this range — same 2 inch, 2 ply, same 9802 part number series — states 9,800 lbs. The 9,800 figure matches the part number. The 12,800 appears to be the basket rating duplicated into the webbing field. Correct it, because on a rigging product a wrong number is not a typo.

At 4 ft this is a short sling and short slings have a specific geometry problem.

A basket hitch with a short sling on a wide load produces a very shallow sling angle — the legs splay outward and the tension in each leg climbs far above the share of the weight it carries. At thirty degrees from horizontal, each leg sees double. A 4 ft sling simply does not have the length to keep the angle safe on anything but a narrow load.

So short slings are for narrow loads, vertical hitches, and chokers — not for basketing something wide.
