The Relton REL01G-RS is Rel-Saw bandsaw cutting oil, a semi-synthetic bandsaw fluid concentrate containing rust and corrosion inhibitors, 1 gallon, 1 each and 4 per case.

Concentrate is the specification and it is the thing that must not be missed: this is not ready to use. It is mixed with water to a stated ratio, and a gallon of concentrate makes many gallons of working fluid.

Getting the ratio wrong goes badly in both directions. Too lean and the fluid does not carry enough oil to prevent welding at the cutting edge — the blade dulls fast and the operator blames the blade. Too rich wastes expensive concentrate, foams, and leaves a residue on everything. And a machine run on plain water rusts from the inside.

The rust and corrosion inhibitors address the consequence of using water at all. Water is an outstanding coolant and it rusts everything it touches — the workpiece, the machine table, the blade guides. Inhibitors are what make a water-based fluid usable in a steel machine.

Semi-synthetic sits between straight oil and a fully synthetic fluid: some of the lubricity of oil, much of the cooling of water.

On a bandsaw, cooling is the priority. A blade's teeth are in and out of the cut continuously, and heat is what anneals them.
