The Rectorseal RRS31431 is RectorSeal Tru-Blu pipe thread sealant, blue, 16 oz (1 pint).

Blue identifies the Tru-Blu grade in the Rectorseal range, alongside No. 5 in yellow and T Plus in white. Those are separate formulations with separate approvals rather than three colours of one product — and it is worth verifying the approved services against Rectorseal's own data before selling against a requirement, because gas, potable water, and oxygen each carry specific certifications and the wrong grade in a gas line is a serious matter.

What a thread sealant does is fill a gap that cannot be closed mechanically. A tapered pipe thread wedges as it tightens and makes real metal contact — and the helical path spiralling between the thread flanks is still open. It always is, on every tapered thread ever cut. That spiral is the leak path, and the sealant fills it.

Which is why more torque does not fix a weeping joint. Cranking harder on a tapered thread does not close the spiral; it splits the female fitting.

The case against PTFE tape is that it shreds while being wrapped, and the fragments foul valves and orifices downstream. A paste has nothing to shed.
