Magnaflux MGX01519040 Penetrant SKL-WP2 Water Washable Type 2 5 gal 18.9 l

The Magnaflux MGX01519040 is SKL-WP2 penetrant, water washable Type 2, 5 gallon pail, red and violet, oily, mild odour, density 0.87 g/cc / 7.30 lb/gal.

Two designations here define the product. Water washable means the excess penetrant is removed with a plain water rinse rather than solvent — which for a shop with a wash station is faster, cheaper, and better suited to volume. Batches of parts get processed rather than individual welds inspected.

Type 2 means visible dye rather than fluorescent. The indication is red, read against a white developer background in ordinary light. Type 1 is fluorescent, requires a darkened booth and UV light, and is considerably more sensitive. Type 2 needs nothing but eyes and light, which is why it dominates field and general shop work.

The 5 gallon pail identifies a dip-tank operation rather than aerosol touch-up.

The critical limitation applies regardless of type: penetrant only finds flaws open to the surface. Nothing subsurface will show.

Note a data issue: the source lists "SAE Sensitivity: > 200°F, 93°C" and "Physical State: Gas, Pressurizes Liquid." Sensitivity is not measured in degrees, and a 5 gallon pail is not pressurised — both fields appear to have been copied from the aerosol version. Worth correcting.
