The Magnaflux MGX01-5750-78 is SKC-S cleaner and remover, 10.5 oz aerosol can, for non-destructive testing, usage temperature 40 to 125°F, storage temperature 50 to 86°F, density 6.29 lb/gal / 755 g/l.

The cleaner does the first and last jobs in penetrant inspection, and the first one determines whether the test means anything.

Before penetrant goes on, the surface must be genuinely clean. Penetrant works by capillary action into surface-breaking flaws — and if those flaws are already full of oil, coolant, paint, or water, the penetrant cannot enter. The crack is there, the test reports nothing, and the part is passed. That is the failure mode of the whole method, and it is caused by inadequate cleaning rather than by anything in the inspection itself.

The second job is removing surface excess on solvent removable systems, and this is where technique matters. The correct method is a lightly dampened cloth wiped across the surface — never flooding, never spraying the part directly. Flooding washes penetrant out of the flaw along with the excess, and the indication vanishes.

The usage temperature range of 40 to 125°F is worth noting: penetrant chemistry is temperature sensitive, and inspections outside the stated range are not valid.

Applications include weld inspection, castings, and structural NDT.
