Loctite 515 is the opposite — it is a Gasket Eliminator flange sealant, meaning it eliminates the need for a gasket. It is not a remover. What 515 actually does is form a gasket in place. It is applied as a liquid to a flange face, the flange is assembled, and the sealant cures anaerobically in the joint into a flexible seal shaped exactly to the surfaces.

The advantage over a cut gasket is real. A pre-formed gasket has a thickness, and that thickness compresses and relaxes, which is why gasketed joints need retorquing and eventually leak. A form-in-place sealant is essentially zero thickness — the flanges bolt metal to metal, so there is nothing to relax. It also fills surface imperfections that a gasket would bridge and leak past.

The cure is anaerobic: liquid in air, solid when air is excluded and metal ions are present.
