CRC CRC03030 Lubricant 16 oz Clear/Colorless Aerosol Silicone Multi-Purpose

The CRC03030 is a multi-purpose silicone lubricant in a 16 oz aerosol with a 10 oz net fill, supplied 1 each with 12 per case. It is a clear, colorless liquid classified extremely flammable.

Silicone occupies a specific niche that petroleum lubricants cannot fill, and it is defined by what silicone does not do: it does not attack rubber, plastic, or vinyl. A petroleum-based lubricant applied to a rubber seal swells and softens it, and applied to certain plastics will craze or embrittle them. Silicone leaves a slick, dry-feeling film and leaves the substrate chemically alone. That single property makes it the correct product for weatherstripping, door and window seals, gaskets, O-rings, rubber bushings, plastic slides, tracks, and drawer runners.

Silicone also releases. Nothing adheres to a silicone film, which is why it is the standard mould release in plastics and rubber processing — and precisely why it must be excluded from any area where parts will subsequently be painted, coated, or welded. Silicone contamination causes paint fisheye and coating adhesion failure, transfers readily from hand to surface, and is difficult to remove once present. Many fabrication shops that also paint prohibit silicone on the shop floor entirely for this reason.

The extremely flammable classification reflects the carrier and propellant and requires ventilation and elimination of ignition sources.

Applications include automotive and fleet, plastics and rubber processing, packaging equipment, assembly, and general maintenance on non-metal components.
