CRC CRC02094 Lubricant 16 oz Clear/Water-White Aerosol Silicone Single Purpose

The CRC02094 is a silicone lubricant in a 16 oz aerosol can with a 10 oz net fill, supplied 1 each with 12 per case. It is a clear, water-white liquid and is classified extremely flammable.

This is a single-purpose lubricant, and the single purpose is what silicone does that petroleum-based lubricants cannot. Silicone lubricates non-metal surfaces — rubber, plastic, vinyl, and fabric — without attacking them. A petroleum lubricant put on a rubber seal or a plastic bushing swells and degrades it; silicone leaves a slick, dry-feeling film and leaves the material alone. That makes it the correct product for weatherstripping, door and window seals, gaskets, O-rings, rubber bushings, plastic slides and tracks, and belt dressing.

Silicone also releases. A silicone film is the standard mould release in plastics and rubber processing because nothing adheres to it — which is precisely why silicone must be kept away from any surface that will later be painted, coated, or welded. Silicone contamination causes paint fisheye and coating adhesion failure, and it does not wash off easily. Shops that paint typically ban silicone from the fabrication side of the building entirely.

The extremely flammable classification reflects the propellant and carrier and requires the corresponding handling: no ignition sources, adequate ventilation.

Applications include automotive and fleet, plastics and rubber processing, packaging, assembly, and general maintenance on non-metal components.
