CRC CRC02180 Cleaner 20 oz Colorless Aerosol Chlorinated 95

The CRC02180 is a chlorinated-base cleaner in a 20 oz aerosol with a 19 oz net fill, supplied 1 each with 12 per case. It is a colorless liquid with a very fast evaporation rate, a specific gravity of 1.62, and a KB value of 95.

The KB value is the specification worth understanding here. Kauri-Butanol value measures solvent strength — the higher the number, the more aggressively the solvent dissolves organic soils. At 95 this is a strong cleaner, and that strength is precisely why compatibility must be checked before use: a solvent that cuts heavy grease this readily will also attack many plastics, painted surfaces, and elastomers.

Chlorinated chemistry gives the product two properties that hydrocarbon cleaners cannot match: it is non-flammable, and it carries high solvent power. That combination is why chlorinated cleaners are specified for equipment that cannot be de-energised or moved away from ignition sources.

The critical restriction is hot work. Chlorinated solvent vapour decomposes into phosgene — a highly toxic gas — under the ultraviolet radiation and heat of a welding arc or cutting torch. Parts must be completely dry and vapour fully ventilated before any hot work. In a welding facility, this product and the arc must be kept apart as a matter of procedure, not preference.

The very fast evaporation rate leaves parts dry with no residue.

Applications include heavy degreasing of metal components, tooling, and machinery in manufacturing and maintenance.
