The Ullman ULLHT1 is a telescoping magnetic pick-up tool, 2.5 lb load capacity, 1/2 inch diameter, 6-5/8 inch to 33-1/4 inch, stainless steel handle, neodymium-iron-boron high flux magnet, with a pocket clip.

Neodymium is the specification and it deserves a genuine warning rather than a footnote.

Neodymium magnets are enormously stronger than the ferrite magnets that used to go in these tools, which is why a pen-sized tool can lift two and a half pounds. That strength has consequences people do not anticipate.

They interfere with implanted medical devices. A strong magnet brought close to a pacemaker or an implanted defibrillator can switch it into a magnet-response mode — pacemakers to asynchronous pacing, ICDs to suspending therapy. Manufacturers publish separation distances, and a magnetic pick-up tool in a shirt pocket is well inside them. Anyone with an implanted device needs to know this, and a pocket clip is exactly the wrong place for the tool.

They also erase magnetic stripes on cards and damage some electronic media.

Setting that aside, the tool is one of the most useful things in a toolbox. A dropped bolt in an engine bay is a lost bolt without one.

At 2.5 lb this is the light version — for fasteners rather than components.

The 1/2 inch diameter is what gets down a gap.
