An inspection camera does what a mirror cannot, and the difference is bends.

A mirror needs line of sight. It shows what is around one corner, lit by whatever light reaches it, at whatever angle the mirror can be held. That covers a great deal — but it does not get inside a bore, down a duct, into a cylinder, behind a wall, or around two corners.

A camera on a flexible probe does. The image comes back on a screen regardless of the geometry, and the camera brings its own light, which is the other half of the problem: a mirror in a dark cavity shows a dark cavity.

The telescoping magnetic base is the feature that makes it a tool rather than a gadget. It stands the camera up on any steel surface and holds it there, which frees both hands. Anyone who has tried to hold a probe, a torch, and a tool at once understands.

The attachments — typically a hook, a magnet, and a mirror on the probe tip — turn inspection into retrieval. Finding the dropped bolt is half the job.
