Robertshaw Gas Valve 24V 240K BTU 700-402

The Robertshaw 700-402 is a 24 volt gas valve rated to approximately 240,000 BTU per hour.

Gas valve replacement carries requirements that go beyond fitting the part. Because the valve controls the flow of fuel gas, the work involves breaking and remaking gas connections, and every one of those joints must be leak tested before the appliance is returned to service.

The testing method matters. A soap solution or an approved leak detection fluid applied to every joint made, with the gas on and the appliance both off and running, is the standard approach. An electronic gas detector is a useful supplement but does not replace it, and a check confined to the joints that seemed most likely misses the one that leaks.

Beyond leak testing, commissioning includes verifying inlet gas pressure, setting manifold pressure to the appliance specification, confirming the burner lights smoothly and cleanly across its full firing rate, and checking that the valve closes promptly when the call ends.

Gas type must be confirmed. A valve configured for natural gas fitted to a propane appliance, or the reverse, produces either a dangerously overfired burner or one that will not light.

Applications include commercial and larger residential gas furnaces, boilers, and unit heaters.
