Robertshaw Gas Valve 120V 3/4 700-454

The Robertshaw 700-454 is a 120 volt gas valve with 3/4 inch connections.

A line voltage gas valve is energised at 120 volts rather than through a 24 volt control transformer. This arrangement appears on commercial heating equipment, unit heaters, and appliances whose control scheme operates at line voltage rather than employing a low voltage control circuit.

The distinction is critical at replacement, because the valve's operator is voltage specific and the valves are outwardly similar. A 24 volt operator connected to 120 volts fails immediately. A 120 volt operator on a 24 volt circuit does not open, producing an appliance that runs its ignition sequence and then locks out on failure to prove flame, which sends the technician looking at the ignitor and flame sensor rather than the valve.

Reading the voltage marking on the valve, and confirming the actual control voltage with a meter, avoids both.

Line voltage control circuits also mean that every control device upstream of the valve carries line voltage and must be rated accordingly.

Verify gas type, connection sizes, capacity, and voltage against the appliance, and leak test every joint made before returning the equipment to service.
