DiversiTech Service Chemical WD-40 741-001 8OZ

The DiversiTech 741-001 is an eight ounce container of WD-40 multi purpose product.

Penetrating and displacing products of this type are widely carried and widely misapplied, so it is worth being clear about what they do.

The product displaces water, provides light corrosion protection, and helps free lightly seized fasteners and mechanisms. Those are its strengths and they are genuinely useful on service work, particularly on outdoor equipment where fasteners corrode.

What it is not is a lubricant for anything that carries load or runs continuously. It is a light oil that evaporates and migrates, leaving little behind, and using it on bearings, motor shafts, or moving assemblies that need sustained lubrication provides brief relief followed by a return to the original condition, sometimes worse because it has washed out whatever grease was there.

Bearings need grease or oil specified for the application. Motors with oiling points need the correct oil.

For seized fasteners, a dedicated penetrating fluid generally works better, and either way the fluid needs time to work rather than being applied and immediately levered against.

It should be kept away from belts, where it destroys grip, and off electrical contacts where a residue is unwanted.

The product is flammable and should not be sprayed near ignition sources or into energised equipment. Confirm compatibility with plastics and finishes before use.
