The Yellow Jacket 21236 is a 3 foot blue PLUS II charging hose for low side service.

Blue identifies the low side connection, made to the suction line or the suction service valve, where the hose reads evaporating pressure and through which refrigerant is added as vapour.

Charging into the low side is the correct method when adding refrigerant as vapour to an operating system, and it must be done carefully. Refrigerant added as liquid to the suction line reaches the compressor as liquid, and liquid entering a compressor designed to pump vapour causes slugging, which can break valves and connecting rods.

Where liquid charging is necessary, it is performed into the high side with the system off, or into the low side through a metering device that flashes the liquid to vapour before it reaches the compressor.

The three foot length gives minimal internal volume, which is advantageous where hoses are connected and disconnected frequently, and adequate reach where service ports are accessible.

Hoses should be checked for a serviceable gasket at each connection before use, since a missing or hardened gasket is the commonest source of leaks at the manifold.
