The Tweco TWE9205-1130 is a GC-300 ground clamp, 3/0 AWG cable capacity, 300 amp, 8-1/2 inch, 1-1/2 inch jaw opening, 4 inch jaw depth, ball-point cable connection, copper alloy.
The ground clamp is the most neglected component in welding and it causes the most expensive failures, which is a combination worth explaining.
Welding current has to return to the machine. It goes wherever it can, and it does not care about intent. A ground clamp with a poor connection — corroded, loose, or on painted steel — has resistance, and current takes the path of least resistance instead. That path runs through whatever is available: bearings, gearboxes, machined surfaces, control wiring, hydraulic cylinders.
Current crossing a bearing arcs across the film between the ball and the race. It pits the race, microscopically, thousands of times. The bearing runs fine for months and then fails, and nobody connects it to a weld repair done in the spring. Bearing damage from stray welding current is a documented, routine, and thoroughly misdiagnosed failure.
The rule that follows: clamp to clean bare metal as close to the weld as possible.
The jaw depth of 4 inches is the practical specification — it determines what the clamp can actually get onto.
Copper alloy is the material: conductivity plus enough strength for a spring jaw.
