System Sensor Duct Smoke Detector 1.5FT Sampling Tube

The System Sensor DST1.5 is a 1.5 foot sampling tube for duct smoke detectors, spanning the duct to collect an air sample across its width.

The sampling tube is not an accessory but an essential functional component. A duct smoke detector draws its sample through an inlet tube that extends across the duct, with holes along its length collecting air from the full width of the airstream, and exhausts through a shorter tube. The pressure differential between the two creates the flow through the sensing chamber.

Two installation errors recur. The first is fitting a tube too short for the duct, which samples only part of the airstream. Smoke in a duct is not necessarily well mixed, and a tube spanning half the width may miss it entirely. The tube should span substantially the full duct width, and where a duct is wider than the longest available tube, tubes are joined.

The second is orientation. The sampling holes must face into the airflow, and the tube's end cap must be fitted. A tube installed backwards, or with the holes facing downstream, will not develop the pressure differential needed to drive flow through the detector.

At 1.5 feet this tube suits narrow ducts.
