The Sterno STR10102 is a stem wick chafing fuel, methanol, wick form, 7.14 oz can, 6-hour burn, food service grade, 24 per carton.

Methanol is the fuel and it carries a property that everyone handling it should know: it burns with a flame that is nearly invisible in daylight.

That is not a curiosity. A methanol flame in a lit room produces very little visible light — a faint blue that disappears against a bright background. Which means a can that is burning looks exactly like a can that is not, and people reach into it. Burns from invisible alcohol flames are a documented hazard in food service, and they happen to experienced staff.

The rules follow directly. Assume a can is lit unless it has been positively extinguished with its lid. Never add fuel to a burning or hot unit. Never move a lit can. And know that the flame is there even when the eye says it is not.

The wick form is worth distinguishing from gel. A wick fuel holds liquid methanol in an absorbent body and burns from a controlled wick, which gives an even flame for the rated time and a clean shutoff with the lid. Gel burns from an open surface.

Six hours is the long service duration — a full event without changing cans.

Food service grade means it is intended for warming food.
