Shurtape AF975 Duct Aluminum FO 232035

The Shurtape 232035 AF975 is an aluminium foil tape for insulation and duct sealing work.

Foil tape thickness and backing type affect handling and durability, and the differences are worth knowing when selecting.

Thinner foils conform readily to irregular surfaces and around curves, which suits pipe insulation and complex shapes. They tear more easily during application, which is a nuisance overhead.

Heavier foils resist tearing and puncture and hold their shape better, which suits duct seams and locations where the tape may be subject to handling or abrasion.

Some foil tapes carry a paper or film liner that is removed during application. Liners make the tape easier to position accurately before it bonds, which is genuinely helpful on precise work, at the cost of an extra step and waste to collect.

Linerless tapes are faster in volume work but bond on contact, so placement must be right first time.

Reinforced foil tapes incorporate a scrim for tensile strength where the joint sees movement.

The adhesive matters as much as the backing. Acrylic adhesives generally retain adhesion over a wider temperature range and longer service life than rubber based alternatives, which matters in attics and plant rooms.

Confirm the temperature rating, thickness, liner type, and any required listing against the application. Apply to clean dry surfaces with a squeegee.
