The Shurtape 105475 PC609 Duck Pro is a two inch black general purpose cloth tape.

General purpose cloth tapes have legitimate uses that do not involve sealing ductwork. Bundling, temporary holding during assembly, marking and identification, protecting surfaces during work, and securing coverings are all appropriate.

The distinction that matters is between temporary and permanent applications. Cloth tape performs well for a period measured in days or weeks. Over years, and particularly at elevated temperature, the adhesive dries, the backing shrinks, and the tape releases.

That behaviour is unacceptable in a duct seal, which must hold for the life of the system in an attic that may reach very high temperatures in summer. It is entirely acceptable for holding a protective covering in place during a week of construction.

Black is chosen for visibility reasons, either to be inconspicuous against dark surfaces or for stage and display work where reflection is unwanted.

Residue is worth considering where the tape is applied to a finished surface. Cloth tape left in place for an extended period leaves adhesive that is difficult to remove and may damage the finish beneath.

Confirm the tape suits the intended service life, and that permanent duct sealing uses a listed sealing product rather than general purpose tape.
