DiversiTech Contactor 2P 25A 24V C225A

The DiversiTech C225A is a two pole definite purpose contactor rated 25 amps with a 24 volt coil.

Contactor amp rating must be selected against the load it switches, and the relevant figures come from the equipment nameplate rather than from the contactor being replaced. Two ratings matter: the full load amps the load draws in normal running, and the locked rotor amps it draws momentarily at start.

Full load amps determines whether the contacts can carry the current continuously without overheating. Locked rotor amps determines whether the contacts can make and break the starting surge repeatedly without welding. Definite purpose contactors are rated for both, and a contactor selected only on running current may be undersized for the inrush.

Substituting a contactor of the same physical size but a lower rating is a common shortcut when the correct part is not to hand, and it produces a contactor with a short life. The failure mode is progressive: contacts pit under the repeated inrush, resistance rises, heat builds at the contact faces, and eventually the contacts weld closed and the load runs continuously.
