The Owens Corning 441743 is a 1-1/2 inch thick fiberglass duct board panel, 48 by 120 inches, supplied unboxed.

Unboxed panels are the economical option for contractors taking delivery in volume, where panels are handled directly from the truck to the job or to a fabrication area rather than stored and moved repeatedly. The saving is real, but it shifts responsibility for protecting the panels onto the site: the foil facing is the air and vapour barrier of the finished duct, and a facing torn in handling must be repaired before the section is installed.

Panels should be stored flat, kept dry, and protected from crushing at the edges, since a damaged edge will not form a sound closure.

The 1-1/2 inch thickness is the common specification for duct located in unconditioned space, satisfying typical energy code requirements for attics and vented crawl spaces where duct losses are otherwise substantial. It also gives more acoustic absorption than 1 inch board, which is a meaningful benefit at the plenum where blower noise is generated.

Fabrication uses grooving tools to cut shiplap and vee grooves for folding, with staples and sealing tape closing each seam. The quality of that sealing determines whether the finished duct holds pressure, and duct board joints left unsealed leak freely regardless of how well the section is cut.

Applications include residential and light commercial supply and return duct and plenum fabrication.
