Owens Corning 1X48X120 Duct Board 441732

The Owens Corning 441732 is a 1 inch thick fiberglass duct board panel, 48 inches by 120 inches, for fabrication of rectangular duct and plenums.

Duct board is fabricated on site rather than in a shop, which is its principal practical advantage. A contractor with a set of grooving tools can produce plenums, transitions, and trunk sections shaped to the actual conditions found at the job, without ordering fittings, waiting for a fabrication shop, or carrying an inventory of sizes. Where the space available differs from the drawing, which is routine, the duct is simply cut to suit.

The material is a rigid fiberglass panel with a reinforced foil facing on the outer surface. That facing is the vapour retarder and the air barrier, and the fiberglass core is the structure, the insulation, and the acoustic absorber.

Handling requires care. The foil facing is the air barrier, and a tear or puncture that is not repaired becomes a leakage path. The exposed core at cut edges and closures must be properly sealed, both to prevent leakage and to protect the fiberglass from erosion in the airstream.

At 1 inch thickness the board suits duct within conditioned space and applications where thermal requirements are modest; duct in unconditioned attics and crawl spaces generally requires greater thickness under the energy code.

Applications include residential and light commercial duct and plenum fabrication.
