Nordic Technology Thermostat Wiring Adapter Fast-Stat

The Nordic Technology 7000 is a Fast-Stat thermostat wiring adapter, adding control conductors over existing thermostat cable.

The problem this solves is common in retrofit work. An existing installation has thermostat cable with four or five conductors, and the replacement equipment or thermostat requires more. A heat pump needs conductors for reversing valve and auxiliary heat; a modern thermostat needs a common wire for power; a communicating system may need conductors the original installation never anticipated.

Running new cable is the conventional answer, and it is frequently impractical. The existing cable may be buried in a finished wall, run through insulation, or pass through structure that cannot be opened without significant making good. On a retrofit the cost of running new cable can exceed the cost of the equipment being installed.

A wiring adapter uses a transmitter at the equipment and a receiver at the thermostat to carry additional signals over the existing conductors, effectively adding wires without adding cable.

Installation requires the units to be matched at each end and wired according to the manufacturer's instructions, and the existing cable must be sound.

Applications include residential and light commercial thermostat and equipment retrofits.
