Nordic Technology Fast-Stat Wiring Extender FS1000

The Nordic Technology FS1000 is a Fast-Stat wiring extender, adding control conductors to an existing thermostat cable run.

The situation this addresses arises constantly in retrofit work. An existing thermostat cable has fewer conductors than the new equipment or thermostat requires, and running replacement cable means opening finished walls, working through insulation, or negotiating structure that cannot easily be accessed.

The most common specific case is the missing common wire. Modern thermostats, particularly communicating and wifi models, require a continuous 24 volt supply rather than drawing power parasitically through the control circuit, and older installations frequently have no spare conductor to provide it. The second common case is a heat pump conversion, where reversing valve and auxiliary heat conductors are needed that the original cooling-only installation never had.

An extender uses paired units, one at the equipment and one at the thermostat, to carry additional signals over the conductors already present.

The existing cable must be sound for this to work. Damaged insulation, corroded terminations, or conductors already showing faults will not become reliable by carrying more signals, and diagnosing the cable before fitting an extender is worthwhile.

Applications include residential and light commercial thermostat replacement and equipment retrofits.
