Milwaukee MIL49-90-1900 Vacuum Kit Wet/dry vacuum filter kit

The Milwaukee MIL49-90-1900 is a wet/dry vacuum filter kit, HEPA filter assembly.

HEPA is the specification and it is a defined standard rather than a description. A HEPA filter captures at least 99.97 percent of particles at 0.3 microns — the size that is hardest to catch, because larger particles are intercepted and smaller ones are caught by diffusion.

Why it matters in a shop vacuum is the part people miss. An ordinary vacuum captures the visible dust and passes the fine fraction straight through the motor and back into the room — and the fine fraction is the part that matters for health. Coarse dust settles; respirable dust stays airborne for hours and goes into lungs. A vacuum without adequate filtration takes dust off the floor and puts it in the air, which is worse than leaving it alone.

For silica, lead paint, and wood dust, that distinction is regulatory as well as sensible. Silica dust in particular has specific control requirements, and a HEPA-filtered vacuum is a standard part of meeting them.

The filter is a consumable. A loaded HEPA filter restricts airflow, which reduces suction and makes the motor work harder — so it gets replaced on a schedule, not when someone notices.

Applications include construction cleanup, silica and lead work, and workshop dust control.
