Mars Protector Surge 83905

The Mars 83905 is a surge protector for HVAC equipment, installed to shield electronic controls and drives from voltage transients originating on the electrical supply.

The case for surge protection on modern HVAC equipment rests on what has changed inside it. Older systems used contactors, mechanical relays, and simple thermostats that tolerated substantial voltage excursions. Current equipment relies on inverter compressor drives, ECM blower motor modules, communicating control boards, and integrated diagnostic electronics, all of which are semiconductor devices with defined and relatively low transient withstand limits.
