CPS Surge Protector TPSPD

The CPS TPSPD is a surge protective device designed for installation at HVAC equipment, defending sensitive electronic components against voltage transients on the incoming supply.

Surge protection has become materially more relevant as HVAC equipment has grown more electronic. Contemporary systems contain inverter-driven compressors, variable speed ECM blower modules, communicating control boards, and integrated diagnostics, all built around semiconductors that fail at voltage levels a legacy contactor-and-relay system would have shrugged off. A single transient from a nearby lightning strike, a utility switching event, or a large motor starting elsewhere on the service can destroy a control board or inverter drive costing a substantial fraction of the equipment's value.

Warranty coverage frequently excludes damage attributed to power surges, which leaves the homeowner or building owner facing the full replacement cost. That exposure is what makes point-of-equipment surge protection a practical sale rather than an upsell.

Installing protection at the equipment rather than only at the service panel is deliberate. Transients can be induced on branch circuit wiring downstream of a panel-level device, and protection placed electrically close to the load clamps the transient before it reaches the components being defended. Panel and equipment protection are complementary rather than alternatives.

Applications include residential and light commercial condensing units, heat pumps, air handlers, ductless outdoor units, and packaged rooftop equipment.

Install per manufacturer instructions and applicable electrical code, verify voltage compatibility with the equipment supply, and inspect the device's status indicator periodically, since suppression components degrade with each transient absorbed.
