Mars High Pressure Switch 410 M43313

The Mars M43313 is a high pressure switch with an approximate 410 PSI setting.

High pressure protection is one layer in a hierarchy of compressor protection, and understanding what each layer covers helps explain why a compressor still failed despite the protection being present.

The high pressure control protects against excessive discharge pressure. The low pressure control protects against operation with insufficient refrigerant. Internal thermal protection within the compressor responds to winding temperature. External overloads, where fitted, respond to current. A discharge temperature control, on systems that have one, responds to the temperature of the discharge gas directly.

Each covers a different failure path, and none covers all of them. A compressor can be destroyed by liquid floodback without any pressure control operating, because floodback occurs at normal pressures. It can be destroyed by lubrication failure from oil that has lost its properties, again at normal pressures.

Pressure controls are essential but not comprehensive, and a compressor failure on a system with functioning pressure controls simply means the failure path was one they do not cover.

Applications include commercial refrigeration, air conditioning, and heat pump systems.
