The Jackson Safety JKS46925 is a Translight PLUS outer safety plate with a 3.23 x 3.86 inch viewing area.

An outer safety plate — cover lens — is the clear plate that sits in front of the welding filter, and it is the cheapest insurance in the welding trade. Behind it sits an auto-darkening cartridge that costs many times what the plate does. Spatter, sparks, and grinding debris pit and scar whatever they hit. The plate takes that damage; the ADF does not.

The economics are the whole argument, and they are frequently ignored. Shops that run without a cover plate, or run a pitted one until the welder cannot see, destroy expensive cartridges and then wonder why their consumable spend is high. A cover plate costs pennies against a cartridge.

There is a quality argument too. A welder squinting through a pitted plate cannot see the puddle properly, and weld quality follows sight. The plate gets changed when it pits, not when it becomes unusable.

Note the outer designation — helmets typically use an inner plate as well, on the eye side of the filter, and the two are different parts.
