Honeywell North NOR75SCP100L North Safety Defender Organic Vapor Chlorine

The Honeywell North NOR75SCP100L is a Defender cartridge and filter combination covering organic vapour, chlorine, hydrogen chloride, sulphur dioxide, hydrogen sulphide (escape), hydrogen fluoride, chlorine dioxide, ammonia, methylamine, formaldehyde, and P100 particulate.

A multi-gas combination cartridge exists because real environments contain more than one thing, and swapping cartridges when the hazard changes is not realistic for someone already inside a plant.

Two things in this list deserve attention.

Hydrogen sulphide is marked escape, and that word is doing serious work. It means this cartridge is rated to get a wearer out of an H2S atmosphere, not to work in one. That is not a technicality: H2S deadens the sense of smell at concentrations well below lethal, so the warning property disappears exactly when it matters. Working H2S atmospheres requires supplied air, not a cartridge.

The P100 element is the particulate half. P means oil proof — the highest of the N, R, P ratings — and 100 means at least 99.97 percent capture. That is what allows use where oil aerosols are present, which N-series filters cannot handle.

Gas cartridges have finite capacity and no gauge. Change-out schedules must be calculated from exposure, not from smell.

Fit testing governs all of it.

Applications include chemical processing, laboratories, and industrial maintenance.
