The Empire EPL1110 is a framing square, model 1110, in a 16 inch by 24 inch size, graduated in 1/8 inch, constructed in steel.

The framing square is a layout instrument rather than a measuring tool, and the 16 x 24 inch proportion is the whole design. Those two legs — the tongue and the blade — form a fixed right angle at a size that matches building geometry: 16 inches is standard stud and joist spacing, and 24 inches is the alternative spacing and a common sheet increment.
