DiversiTech Hoseclamp 9/16IN-1-1/8IN HC5410

The DiversiTech HC5410 is a worm gear hose clamp with an adjustment range of 9/16 to 1-1/8 inches, used to secure flexible hose to barbed and plain fittings.

Worm gear clamps work by drawing a slotted band tight around the hose using a captive screw that engages the slots. They are inexpensive, reusable, adjustable over a range, and can be fitted and released with a screwdriver or nut driver in confined spaces.

Selecting the right size range matters. A clamp used at the extreme end of its range performs poorly. At the smallest end the band is coiled tightly and the free end protrudes awkwardly; at the largest end there may be insufficient band engaged in the screw housing, and the clamp can release under load.

Working near the middle of the stated range gives the most reliable result.

Clamp position on the fitting also matters. The clamp should sit over the barb rather than beyond it, so that the hose is compressed between the clamp and the raised barb. A clamp positioned past the end of the barb compresses the hose against nothing and does very little.

Band edges on inexpensive clamps can cut into soft hose over time, and clamps with rolled or smooth band edges reduce this.

Confirm the clamp range suits the hose outside diameter, and check the material is appropriate for the environment.
