DiversiTech Hoseclamp 5/16IN-7/8IN HC6203

The DiversiTech HC6203 is a worm gear hose clamp with an adjustment range of 5/16 to 7/8 inches, suited to small diameter hose connections.

Overtightening is the most frequent error with hose clamps, particularly on small sizes and soft tubing.

A clamp is tightened to compress the hose sufficiently to seal against the fitting. Beyond that point, further tightening cuts into the hose wall. The immediate result may still be a seal, but the hose has been damaged at the point where it is under most stress, and it will eventually split there.

On soft vinyl tubing, which is common on condensate work, the material is easily cut through by a narrow band clamp drawn up hard. Tightening to the point where the hose is firmly gripped and then stopping is the correct approach, with a check for leaks rather than a further turn on principle.

Thermal cycling loosens clamps over time as the hose material takes a compression set. A clamp that was correct at installation may be slightly loose a season later, which is why checking clamps is worth including in a service routine.

Where a connection carries any pressure or where failure would matter, a clamp designed for the purpose is preferable to a general purpose worm gear type.

Confirm the range suits the hose outside diameter, position the clamp over the fitting barb, and select a material suited to the environment.
