DiversiTech Draft Inducer Motor 66002

The DiversiTech 66002 is a draft inducer motor supplied as a replacement for the combustion venting blower in gas-fired furnaces and appliances.

Draft inducer motors accumulate their wear differently from other HVAC motors. They run only during heating calls, but each call subjects the motor to a start, a period of operation in an airstream carrying combustion products, and a shutdown, and in condensing appliances that airstream is corrosive because flue gas condensate is acidic.

The failure modes follow from this. Bearings wear from repeated starts, the wheel accumulates deposits that unbalance it, and in condensing appliances corrosion attacks the wheel and housing. A draft inducer that has become noisy or that starts slowly is approaching failure, and because failure means no heat, replacement before the heating season is worth considering when the condition is noted during an autumn service.

Confirm the appliance model and the original part number before ordering, and verify shaft diameter, wheel fitment, mounting arrangement, and electrical rating.

Inspect the pressure switch hose, the vent, and any condensate trap during replacement. A restriction in any of these produces the same lockout symptoms as a failing inducer and is frequently the actual fault.
