The DiversiTech 14175 is a 10 pack of smoke test devices for airflow and leak visualisation.

Smoke testing makes air movement visible, and seeing airflow is frequently more informative than measuring it.

Applications in HVAC work are varied. Smoke released near a suspected duct leak shows whether air is escaping and where. Released at a return grille it shows whether air is being drawn as expected. Released near a combustion appliance draft hood it shows whether the vent is drawing or spilling, which is the standard test for adequate draft. Released in a room it shows circulation patterns, dead zones, and short circuiting between supply and return.

The draft hood application is a safety test rather than a diagnostic convenience. Combustion products spilling from a draft hood enter the occupied space, and the test should be performed with all other exhaust appliances running and interior doors in their normal positions, since building depressurisation is a common cause of spillage that a test under favourable conditions will miss.

Applications include HVAC diagnostics, duct leakage investigation, combustion venting verification, and airflow assessment.
