Yellow Jacket Refrigerant A2L Adapter 90-Degree ¼ X ¼ LH

The Yellow Jacket 19204 is a 90 degree A2L service adapter with 1/4 inch left hand thread connections for service on mildly flammable refrigerant systems.

The transition to A2L refrigerants is driven by regulation reducing the global warming potential of refrigerants in new equipment. R-410A, which itself replaced R-22 on ozone depletion grounds, has a high global warming potential, and the replacements entering service including R-32 and R-454B are substantially lower.

The trade off accepted in exchange is mild flammability. A2L refrigerants will burn under some conditions, though they have low burning velocity and require a fairly energetic ignition source and a concentration within a limited range.

The practical consequence for technicians is a set of changed procedures rather than a fundamentally different trade. Equipment must be rated for A2L, connections use left hand threads, ignition sources are controlled during work, ventilation is considered in confined spaces, leak detection must suit the refrigerant, and equipment may incorporate refrigerant detection systems that shut down the circuit and run ventilation on a leak.

Charge size limits also apply to some equipment types depending on the space served.

A 90 degree adapter provides clearance where the port sits close to an obstruction.

Confirm thread direction, size, pressure rating, and A2L approval, and verify hoses, manifold, and recovery equipment are all rated for the refrigerant in use.
