Description
The Uniweld MEVP6SB is a 6 CFM two stage battery powered vacuum pump.
Two stage construction is what allows a vacuum pump to reach the deep vacuums refrigeration work requires. A single stage pump can achieve a useful vacuum; a two stage pump, in which the discharge of the first stage feeds the inlet of the second, reaches substantially lower pressures.
The 6 CFM displacement describes the pump's capacity at its inlet. Larger displacement evacuates a given system faster, though as noted the restrictions in the connecting hoses and fittings frequently dominate.
Battery operation removes the dependence on a power source, which on rooftop, new construction, and remote work is a genuine advantage.
Pump maintenance matters more than pump specification for achieving good results. The oil must be clean, since vacuum pump oil absorbs the moisture drawn out of systems and becomes progressively less capable. Oil should be changed frequently, and on a pump used to evacuate a wet system, immediately afterwards.
A pump with contaminated oil cannot reach a deep vacuum regardless of its rating.
Applications include refrigeration and air conditioning evacuation.
