The Spilfyter NPSU1PM100 is an NPS Essentials 15 x 18 inch universal single-ply sorbent pad, medium weight, grey, single-ply meltblown polypropylene, 15 gallon absorbency, 100 pads.

This is the medium weight universal pad, and reading it against the heavy weight version shows where the money should go.

Most sorbent consumption in a workshop is not spill response. It is maintenance: a pad under a leaking fitting, a wipe-down, a drip tray liner, a pad in a machine's sump. In every one of those, the pad is being changed on a schedule rather than being asked to hold its maximum. Absorbency is irrelevant, and paying for heavy weight is paying for capacity nobody will use.

Heavy weight earns its cost on actual spills, where a pad has to hold a lot and survive being dragged.

Universal is the specification and grey is the identifier: white is oil only across this range. Universal sorbents are treated so the polypropylene takes water-based liquids as well as hydrocarbons — the correct general stock for an interior floor.

The cost is that universal fills with rain outdoors and sinks on water. Weather and marine work need oil only.

Meltblown construction gives very fine fibres with a capillary network between them, which is what draws and holds the liquid.

Saturated sorbents are hazardous waste.
