Spectronics Mini UV Light LED Leak SPE-MVL-CS

The Spectronics SPE-MVL-CS is a compact LED ultraviolet leak detection lamp.

Compact ultraviolet lamps are carried more readily than full sized ones, and the practical effect is that they are available when a leak inspection becomes necessary rather than sitting in the van.

The size also permits inspection in places a larger lamp cannot reach: inside equipment cabinets, between coil rows, behind panels, around compressor terminals and service valves, and along line sets in confined runs. These are precisely the locations where leaks are most difficult to find by other means, since a probe cannot easily be passed along them either.

The trade-off is output. A smaller lamp generally produces less illumination, which limits the size of trace it will reveal and makes ambient light more of an obstacle. Shading the inspection area, or working in darkened conditions, compensates.

UV enhancing glasses improve contrast considerably and provide eye protection, and are worth carrying alongside any UV lamp.

Applications include refrigeration and air conditioning leak detection in confined and difficult access locations.
