Spectronics Leak Detector Dye Stick SPE-GS2E-CS

The Spectronics SPE-GS2E-CS is a dye stick for introducing fluorescent leak detection dye into refrigeration systems.

Solid dye formats offer an alternative to liquid dye injection. The dye is supplied in a solid form that dissolves into the system oil, which avoids introducing a liquid carrier fluid.

The advantage is that no additional fluid enters the system. Liquid dyes are carried in a solvent or oil base, and while formulated for compatibility, that carrier is nonetheless an addition to the system's charge that serves no operational purpose. On smaller systems where the added volume is proportionally greater, this matters more.

The dye itself performs identically once dissolved, fluorescing under ultraviolet illumination at the point where refrigerant and oil escape.

As with any dye method, the system must run for a period so the dye circulates and accumulates at the leak before inspection is worthwhile, and very small leaks may take considerably longer to produce a visible trace.

Compatibility with the system's oil, particularly polyol ester, should be confirmed.

Applications include refrigeration and air conditioning leak detection and service.
