Description
The Sellstrom JKSS32155 is a DP4 Series replacement visor, 4.375 x 9.25 x 0.070 inch, shade 5 IR.
Read the dimensions and this identifies itself: at 4.375 x 9.25 inch this is the flip lens rather than a full face window — the shade 5 element that flips down over a clear shield for cutting and back up for everything else.
Shade 5 IR is the conventional filter level for oxy-fuel gas welding, cutting, brazing, and soldering. The IR designation matters as much as the visible shade, since gas cutting produces substantial infrared and the filter blocks it.
The boundary must be stated plainly: shade 5 is not an arc welding shade. Electric arc processes need 9 to 13 depending on current. A shade 5 lens looks dark enough, which is exactly the problem — the welder feels protected and gets arc eye, a corneal burn that announces itself hours later when nothing can be done about it.
The 0.070 inch thickness is heavier than the clear windows in this series, which suits the radiant heat and spatter of cutting work.
That this is sold separately reflects how the parts wear: the flip lens takes the cutting spatter and gets replaced while the clear window and headgear continue.
